Here we show you how we create our Vlogs

Some of the most common questions include "what camera do you use?" and "what software did you use to edit this vlog?". Therefore we wanted to show you some of the equipment we use in order to film our videos...

Cameras

After our EuroTrip 2017, we realised we needed a camera which recorded on to SD Cards so that we could transfer the data across to our Apple Macs as quickly as possible. We were wasting hours transferring the videos from our iPhones to the computers. This is where our new Sony RX100 V camera came in.

This camera is one of the best blogging cameras packing incredible functions in such a small camera and also including essentials like great sound and also an articulating screen. We have had to purchase extra batteries as the standard battery life isn't great but it's just made our blogging so much easier.

We still maintain that there is always a place for our iPhones as we always have them with us but also we have yet to find a camera which has the iPhone's fantastic image stabilisation.

We always have our iPhone 7 Plus phones with us so they are a great tool for vlogging. These phones come with fantastic dual cameras which give great quality footage. They have great battery life and we opted for 128GB models so we have plenty of storage to cover each video we film. One of the most impressive features these phones pack, is the incredible image stabilisation. You need to spend a small fortune to achieve similar quality from a standalone camera and even our most commonly used Sony RX100 V doesn't have as good image stabilisation as the iPhone 7 Plus.

An essential addition to our kit is the DJI Mavic Pro. We love this drone. The technology included in this tiny package is incredible. With 4K video recording and excellent image stabilisation, this allows us to achieve a different and interesting perspective for our videos.

Editing

In order to finalise our videos ready for YouTube, we have recently started using Final Cut Pro X on the MacBook Pro. We used to use iMovie which is an excellent bit of free software that comes with Macs. The only reason we switched to Final Cut is because it gives a little more flexibility and allows me to create more effects. Another reason is that it allows me to do what is called 'colour grading' on the footage. When we record using our DJI Mavic drone the colour can look very flat so we use the Final Cut software to create a bit more "pop" to the colours so it looks nicer on YouTube.

We recently added to our trusty old 13" MacBook Pro and bought a beautiful 27" iMac. For years, every time we went into the Apple Store we dreamt of owning a 27" iMac so we finally used our YouTube channel as an excuse to buy one. Editing on the iMac is a dream and the screen makes colour grading much easier.

We still use our MacBook Pro when we are away travelling but we are often hindered by storage. Shaun can often be found covered in external hard drives whilst trying to edit on the MacBook Pro.
